What is trackback?

What is trackback? And how is this useful? I have this doubt when i started mywebsite codingmind.tk . I also searched for it but i didn't got clear explanation. Is trackback a factor in seo? Explain please...

You can see this operate on Wordpress platforms. Normally when other individuals put your publish back link on their website, your website will be able to trackback it.

My site shows more than sixty trackbacks... 10 new track backs every day.. Is this spam?
