I also use SMF and I avoid plugins unless it is not necessary . Keeping plugin free is best.

Really? The only reason I choose SMF rather than MyBB is because of the many plug ins...

Quite a long list. SMF is like Firefox, addons give a lot of features otherwise not available in default script.  :)

I mostly use my own plugins only :)
I also try to keep distance from heavy and unwanted plugins.

Didn't knew you make mods too.  :)

Most of the mods I use are unavoidable (for my forum) as they add one or other feature that brings considerable change in the way forum operate.

Making mod is not hard but yes it require lots time and knowledge to make them. I am still going through all , for writing a plugin in SMF, you need to go through lots of code understand it to write something.

Being new to it the first thing I thought was i wanted to avoid any plugins. My line of thougth is the more stuff to sift through the longer it takes and more chances for errors with themes and such.

But the more I looked into the mods the more I wanted them. I am in the test phase but am really enjoying smf overall.
