Title: What is the difference between <div> and <span>

HI All,
           I have completed my 12th . and now i am learning HTML . i am quite confuse that how span and div work .
           I have no much more knowledge of any kind of programming yet  but i want to be a Designer.
           please help me to over come from this problem and also tell what should i have to do next  for my future
          So i become a designer .
