How to create a glossy image using GIMP ?

Thanks. Which version of Photoshop should I get ? My laptop is new, so hardware won't be a problem.

Gimp is very good.
It can do very advance things and if you starting to learn then start with GIMP, its free and also now widely accepted.

You will definitely learn good things which will help you in long term.

photoshop cs 5 is the best this my own example

but note that photoshop is very expansive(for me)
